This 4-hour workshop is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how to design effective and engaging learning experiences for the digital age, with a focus on learning in the metaverse. The workshop includes a variety of interactive activities, including group discussions, hands-on design exercises, and a final activity that challenges participants to design a learning experience in a metaverse platform. Throughout the workshop, participants will be encouraged to actively engage in the learning process, to share their ideas and experiences, and to collaborate with their peers.

Goals & Objectives:

  • Introduce participants to the principles of learning experience design (LXD)
  • Develop a better understanding of how to leverage the potential of digital tools and the metaverse to enhance learning experiences.
  • Apply learning experience design to create engaging and effective learning experiences
  • Collaborate with peers to design and prototype a learning experience in a metaverse platform
  • Discuss the latest trends and technologies in the field, and challenges and opportunities of designing for future digital learners

Outline:

  1. Introduction and Overview (15 minutes)

The facilitator will introduce the concept of learning experience design and provide an overview of the workshop.

  1. Empathy Mapping: Understanding Learners (30 minutes)

Participants will work in groups to  develop empathy maps to identify the characteristics of their target audience and their learning opportunities and challenges; and what emotions to inject to the learning experience to encourage and retain learning.

  1. Designing Learning Experiences (90 minutes)

Participants will learn about the key elements of learning experience design, including setting learning goals, creating engaging content, and incorporating interactive activitie. They will work in groups to design a learning experience using digital tools such as online platforms, multimedia, and social media, as well as metaverse platforms such as Decentraland or Second Life.

Break (15 minutes)

  1. Learning in the Metaverse (60 minutes)

Participants will learn about the potential of the metaverse for learning, including the opportunities for immersive and interactive experiences. They will explore examples of learning experiences in the metaverse and discuss the implications for learning experience design.

  1. Designing a Learning Experience in the Metaverse (60 minutes)

Participants will work in groups to design a learning experience specifically for the metaverse. They will use the principles of learning experience design and their understanding of learners in the metaverse to create a prototype of a learning experience in a metaverse platform.

  1. Testing and Evaluation (15 minutes)

Participants will discuss the importance of testing and evaluation in the learning experience design process. They will share feedback and ideas for improving their designs, with a focus on designing for the metaverse.

  1. Wrap-up and Next Steps (15 minutes)
